Arrival in San Lorenzo
November 27, 2009
Hi All,
Just wanted to write a quick update to let you all know that Lucy and I arrived in San Lorenzo yesterday. It was a 4 day boat ride and ended up being 7 hours longer as the boat was detained twice by the police. It seems this happens more in the holiday season. It was a good trip though. We brought one of Lucy s nephews, a 10 year old and one niece 7 years old--tomorrow with us and they were great and didnt complain a bit.
It actually was a really neat trip as there were eleven people from villages where Lucy used to be a missionary traveling back to there towns from Iquitos. They are from a tribe called the Aguaruna. They still speak their native language and it was really neat because we decided to hold services on the boat. These people sang praise songs in their native language accompained by Lucy on the guitar. All the people on the boat joined in the service and it was a great time. All in all an awesome trip finding brothers and sisters in Christ in every corner of the world. This area around San Lorenzo is more remote with more indigenous tribes and as we were leaving the boat, I noticed that the aguarunas had painted their faces to meet their families again. I feel a little out of place here at times as they hardly ever see white people here and I get stared at a lot.
Tomorrow we are going to have a service in Lucy s house for her nieces birthday. It is a great way to get to witness to all the neighbors and family. Well, just wanted to let you know that we got here safe and sound. They only have lights from 6pm. to 11 pm so communication is a bit more difficult. Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers and hope you had a blessed Thanksgiving.
In Christ
Kayleen
